Suspect Faces Charges for Allegedly Stealing $18,000 Worth of Merchandise in San Francisco

Retail Theft Charges in SF: The Case of Mark Farmer

The Big Bust

Hey folks, here’s the scoop: Mark Farmer, a 49-year-old guy, allegedly went on a shopping spree — but without paying, of course. According to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins’ office, he’s now facing 20 charges.

What’s the Damage?

Farmer’s accused of swiping $18,000 worth of goodies from Union Square shops and other spots around San Francisco.

Let’s break it down:

Charges Counts
Second-Degree Burglary 6
Grand Theft 4
Shoplifting 11

The loot includes stuff from Bloomingdales, Lululemon, and The Gap, among others.

Caught Red-Handed or What?

The cops nabbed Farmer on Sep. 18. According to the DA’s office, he’s been on this theft spree since December last year.

Brooke Jenkins was clear: "My office will do everything we can to ensure that brazen retail thieves are held accountable for their crimes that impact not only the businesses but also the communities that they serve," Jenkins said. Props to the San Francisco Police Department for pinning this guy down.

Courtroom Drama

This isn’t over, folks. Farmer pled not guilty to all charges during his arraignment. The judge set his bail at $100,000. He’s still locked up and will be back in court on Oct. 7. Got some tips?
