Winter’s Icy Embrace Hits Salisbury Again
Well, folks, if there’s one thing this winter isn’t skimping on, it’s a frosty morning in Salisbury. The city, once again, found itself under a blanket of snow. This time, though, we got lucky with just 1 to 2 inches. Seems like the townsfolk learned their lesson from earlier in the week and came more prepared.
Community Spirit in Snow
That snowy Saturday morning had everyone outdoors. You’d catch neighbors shoveling their driveways or catching thrills on the slopes at Elks Lodge. Gunner Chancey, a recent import from the warmer climes of Georgia, couldn’t quite believe it. "Back home, you just don’t see snow," he said, grinning as he looked around, "A couple of years since I saw this, but it’s lovely—though I’m about ready for spring."
Local Businesses Take a Hit
And then we have Nicole Blackwater, whose charming store, the Blackwater Apothecary, is tucked right in the heart of downtown. For her and other local entrepreneurs, these kinds of storms bring more than cold—it’s a business headache. "Running a business downtown is already challenging," she explains. "Every storm makes it tougher." The snow’s disruption forced her to shut down for most of the week.
Rally for the Local Shops
Nicole, who also leads the Downtown Salisbury Business Alliance, is rallying the local troops. "When the snow melts, remember to support your beloved Salisbury businesses," she’s urging everyone. It’s been a difficult year, and our downtown heroes need all the help they can get.
Blackwater Apothecary is up and running Wednesday through Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Be sure to check them out!
Savoring the Quiet Moments
And while snow may spell trouble, for some, it invites reflection. Take local Michael McJilton, for example. While he spent most of the week in cozy hibernation, he had a refreshingly positive take on it all. "It’s a chance to slow down and escape," he reflects. For others, a snowy day is dread, but for him, it’s a welcome pause for introspection.
Life Beyond the Storm
On the brighter side, we’re expecting Mother Nature to take pity on us soon. According to WMDT Meteorologist Erich Ahlf, temperatures will be crawling their way above freezing by Sunday and Monday. So, there’s hope on the horizon, folks!
