Tech Giant to Launch Inaugural Texas Retail Location at Austin’s The Domain

A Lone Star Leap for Google

The Big Apple, or as we like to call it, the big kahuna of everything and anything worthwhile, no longer holds the exclusive bragging rights when it comes to Google storefronts. Our friends down in Texas, who already boast of their bigger and bolder ways, are about to join the club. That’s right, folks, Google is packing up some of its tech magic and sending it south to Austin, Texas.

Setting Up Shop in Austin

Ready or not, Austin, here comes the tech giant! According to the documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Google’s first Texan brick-and-mortar will pop up at The Domain. That’s 11701 Domain Blvd., to the uninitiated. They’ve circled mid-March as the date for wrapping up construction. Presumably, just in time for Texans to stock up on gadgets before the summer heat gets everyone retreating indoors.

What’s in Store?

Got a hankering for phones or smart watches? This new Google Store promises to be a techie’s paradise. Expect shelves lined with smart devices and funky home accessories too. It’s not their first rodeo stateside, though. It’s store number six in the USA for Google. Join the list that includes New York City’s Chelsea and Brooklyn neighborhoods, Boston, Oak Brook, Illinois (right in Chicago’s shadow), and Mountain View, California, which just happens to be the neighborhood of Google’s headquarters.

Boomtown, Meet Google Town

Central Texas is having a moment, folks. If you’ve ever tuned into KVUE’s Boomtown series, you know Austin is in the throes of expansive growth. For more intel on the buzz, pop over to KVUE.com/Boomtown.

Ranking Google’s Footprint

Let me break it down a little. Check out this handy table of Google’s U.S. stores:

Boston Downtown
Oak Brook, Illinois Chicago Suburb
Mountain View, California Google HQ
Austin, Texas The Domain

Why Now?

Why is Google setting its sights on Texas now? Well, with tech scenes exploding faster than a Times Square billboard, it’s no wonder Austin was next on their map. More tech folks, more tech sales—do the math! Austin’s vibrant culture and tech-savvy crowd make it a perfect comrade in Google’s expansion quest.

So, if you find yourself moseying around Austin, keep an eye out. You might just catch a glimpse of a construction crew putting the finishing touches on Texas’s inaugural Google Store. Now that’s something even a New Yorker can tip their hat to.
