AORTIC2025: A New Yorker’s Take

The Scene in Hammamet

Just back from AORTIC2025 in Hammamet, Tunisia. Picture this: a venue buzzing with Africa’s best minds in cancer research. It was one big mix of experts, young researchers, survivors, and global allies all aiming to kick cancer out of Africa.

The Dialogue

The sounds there? Electric. Rich discussions and data-heavy insights filled the air. Voices were powerful, calling for equity and African-led solutions. Everyone was determined to make a difference in cancer care.

A Work in Progress

Yes, the energy was uplifting. One thing was glaring, though. We’re still just scratching the surface. Africa’s cancer problems are rising, but research cash is scarce. We need research that fits our context and systems that hook onto implementation science and patient care.

Taking Action

I left challenged. This can’t just be talk. I need to dive deeper into research, publish more, invest, and team up with others. We need more action because Africa’s cancer future rests on our shoulders.
