Lloyd’s Register’s New Chapter in Africa: Enter Ngozi Gwam
A Rising Star in African Waters
So, Lloyd’s Register just made waves by naming Ngozi Gwam as their new Business Director and Senior Rep for Africa. This move ain’t just business as usual—it’s a statement. It’s like shouting from the rooftops: “Hey Africa, we’re here for the long haul!”
Expanding Horizons
Gwam’s not new to this scene. Since 2018, he’s been all over Sub-Saharan Africa like a local, beefing up relationships in Nigeria, Namibia, and South Africa. Ever heard of LR popping up in Kenya and Angola? That was Gwam’s doing. He’s the guy who made it all happen, plus he opened an office in Mozambique. All this expansion means more money rolling in and a broader range of services.
Cultivating Talent
Gwam also spearheads LR’s Chevening Scholarship programme in Africa—his brainchild from 2020. This ain’t just about books; it’s about building Africa’s maritime and energy A-team. The guy’s vision is about long-term gains, pushing young talent to study in the UK and come back ready to rock the boat.
The Blueprint for Blue Economy
Gwam’s got big plans for Africa’s Blue economy. “It’s all about driving scale and leaving a mark,” he says. He’s out to make sure LR stays the go-to name for all maritime matters. It’s not just business; it’s about staying tight with all stakeholders—every single one.
Endorsements from the Top
Andrew McKeran, LR’s Chief Commercial Officer, couldn’t be happier. He’s all about Gwam leading the charge. With Gwam at the helm, McKeran sees LR engaging at all executive levels and pushing growth across Africa. He’s betting on stronger ties and a beefier presence in the region.
Gwam’s Journey
Let’s rewind. Gwam joined LR in December 2013 in Aberdeen, starting as a Project Manager. From there, he moved up to Business Manager for Nigeria and shook things up as Innovation Programme Manager and Project Manager for North Europe. Remember those ballast water treatment systems? Gwam had his fingerprints all over them.
Packed with Skills
Before LR, Gwam was doing his thing with Schlumberger (SLB) and Speedcast, working on offshore communications and networks. The guy’s got an MBA from IE Business School, nailed a Master’s with Distinction in Wireless Networks from Queen Mary University of London, and laid the groundwork with a Bachelor’s in Applied Physics (Electronics) from the University of Lagos. Talk about credentials!
The Road Ahead
Gwam isn’t just maintaining his initiatives; he’s upping the ante. His leadership ensures that Africa isn’t just part of the conversation—it steers it.
