A Big Apple Salute to Small-Town Champs
Hey there, folks! Let’s chat about two local legends serving up goodness in Santa Maria Valley. What’s the buzz, you ask? Well, these dynamos just snagged the “Business of the Quarter” title. Not too shabby!
Dudley-Hoffman: A Legacy of Comfort
First up, Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory & Memory Gardens has been around since, get this, 1876. Spanning 2.5 acres at 1003 East Stowell Rd., these folks have been offering solace and support to the grieving for generations. According to the city staff, they provide a comforting environment where closure starts to take shape.
Memory Gardens: A Haven
Built in 1978, their Memory Gardens isn’t just your average cemetery. According to their website, it includes a landscaped spot for cremated remains, 24 outdoor-garden crypt niche banks, and two swanky indoor glass-front niche rooms. Not just a place; it’s a legacy.
Straw Hat Pizza: A Slice of Community
Now, let’s shift gears to something delicious. Got a craving for pizza? Head over to Straw Hat Pizza at 1822 North Broadway. With 20 employees, this joint has been dishing out pies since 1996. Randy and Mary Wise, the brains behind the operation, have grown their business by being knee-deep in the community. They know everyone from sports teams to service clubs.
Wise Investment
The Wises snapped up the business back in 1984. And though the first location opened in 1967 and bid adieu in 2001, their current spot is brimming with loyal patrons. It’s not just about pizza; it’s about being a neighborhood staple.
What It Takes to be a Quarter Champ
How do you become one of these honored businesses? Well, to be eligible, a business must employ around 20 folks, operate within city limits, and be a Chamber of Commerce member in good standing. Plus, they need a track record of at least five years.
